Creating a BrandMeister Talkgroup Using Your Digital ID
You can create a personal or group talkgroup on BrandMeister by simply using your own DMR (digital) ID as the talkgroup number. This method is supported by BrandMeister and is commonly used for private or club communications.
Steps to Create and Use Your Digital ID as a BrandMeister Talkgroup:
-
Obtain Your DMR ID
-
You must have a registered DMR ID from RadioID.net.
-
-
Program Your Radio
-
Open your radio’s programming software (CPS).
-
Create a new Contact or Talkgroup entry.
-
Set the Contact Type to “Group Call.”
-
Enter your own DMR ID as the Talkgroup number.
-
Give it a name (e.g., “My TG” or your callsign).
-
-
Create a Channel
-
In the CPS, create a new channel for your hotspot or repeater.
-
Assign the newly created talkgroup (your DMR ID) to this channel.
-
Set the appropriate frequency, color code, and time slot (commonly Color Code 1, Time Slot 2 for hotspots).
-
-
Add to RX Group List
-
Add your talkgroup to the RX Group List so you can receive calls on it.
-
-
Share Your Talkgroup
-
Provide your DMR ID to friends or club members.
-
They must program their radios to use your DMR ID as the talkgroup number in their own contacts and channels.
-
-
Test the Talkgroup
-
Key up (press PTT) on the programmed channel to register your hotspot or repeater with BrandMeister.
-
Others can join by transmitting on the same talkgroup number (your DMR ID).
-
Notes and Best Practices:
-
This method does not require any special registration or approval from BrandMeister; your DMR ID is already unique and routable on the network.
-
This approach is suitable for one-to-one or small group communications, such as among friends or a club.
-
Anyone who knows your DMR ID and programs it as a talkgroup can join, so it is not 100% private.
-
For club use, you can request a 7-digit club DMR ID and use that as your talkgroup.
-
Avoid using someone else’s DMR ID or arbitrary numbers to prevent conflicts.
-
For repeater owners, the repeater’s 6-digit ID can also be used as a talkgroup for local or community use.
Example Workflow:
